Information for Parents

Fit Starts is the on-site preschool physical fitness program designed to develop healthy lifestyle habits in children ages two through six, while improving the daily amount of exercise for children enrolled in preschool and daycare programs.

Considering the number of waking hours the average preschooler spends at a school or daycare setting each day, childcare providers and parents share a role in providing opportunities for significant physical activity each day.  Unfortunately, 90% of the average preschool day is spent in sedentary activities.  This lack of exercise has elevated childhood obesity to a problem of epidemic proportions.

Fit Starts instructors are experienced preschool teachers who hold national certifications as personal trainers.  Our instructors are experts in exercise program development and are the perfect teachers to introduce fitness to children in a safe and fun manner.

Fit Starts incorporates fitness activities such as aerobic exercise, resistance training, stretching and balance into a fun, age-appropriate thirty-minute class. Such activity helps children to obtain and improve fine and gross motor skill development, coordination, balance and control, hand-eye coordination, strength, dexterity, and flexibility—all of which are

necessary for children to reach developmental milestones.*

The Fit Starts program also includes an educational component that introduces preschoolers to important aspects of general wellness, such as healthy eating, exercise and rest.
